A Stylish, Coastal Family Break at the Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth

A break in January is always welcome. Thankfully, we’re checking into the Greenbank Hotel, Falmouth’s top harbourside location for an unforgettable night away.

The long established and highly regarding Greenbank Hotel is a waterside lovers dream where comfort and class come together. Even Florence Nightingale gave it her seal of approval (and she definitely knew how to recuperate!).

Situated on the rather envious location of Falmouth Harbour, the Greenbank Hotel overlooks Carrick Roads, with the sweet village of Flushing on the other side of the water. Not only that, the Greenbank Hotel is on the edge of Falmouth town. It’s a short walk to the tempting shops – Falmouth does have an excellent and thriving High Street with lots of independent retailers. The Greenbank Hotel is in a prime position no matter how you plan to spend your stay.

Our room at the Greenbank Hotel

Myself and my son, Henry, were invited for a much needed winter getaway at the Greenbank Hotel. Stepping into the hotel, there is no doubting the elegance and refined coastal ambience the Greenbank Hotel effortlessly exudes. The staff are approachable and friendly, and are invested in guests having a perfect stay.

Our overnight winter getaway includes one night in a stunning room and complimentary drink in the Working Boat, or small cream tea.

We spent the night in room 105, Lord Hobart, a spacious, beautifully decorated room with an amazing large bay window. This offered fabulous panoramic views of Carrick Roads. Even the grey winter weather couldn’t distract from view. If anything, it added to the atmosphere and made us feel even more cosy.

Our room was stocked with excellent coffee and tea making facilities. A coffee machine and a cafetière, loose tea and tea bags! Oh, and hot chocolate. We enjoyed some Cornish shortbread too. We had a good sized bathroom as well housing a bath and shower.

Cocktails and wine

Once settled into our room, we decided to head downstairs to the Working Boat for our complimentary drinks. As part of the Greenbank Hotel’s winter getaway you have the choice of a free drink each or a mini cream tea to share. We opted for the drinks and headed to the popular Working Boat which was buzzing on this Sunday afternoon.

Afterwards, myself and Henry spent some time reading and relaxing in our room. Actually, it was lovely to have the time to do this. LIfe is so busy and a break at the Greenbank Hotel forced us to slow down a bit. Plus, I’m always up for a bit of gazing out to sea and watching the water.

We decided to see the evening through with a drink in the hotel’s Water’s Edge Bar. With darkness upon us, we could see the lights across the harbour and occasional silhouettes of buildings along the shoreline.

The Greenbank Hotel has a fantastic cocktail menu; it took me ages to decide what to have. I went for the Cornish Negroni – Tarquins rhubarb and raspberry gin, Knightor rosé vermouth, and martini riserva bitters. It was vibrant in colour, finished with a sprig of thyme and had the largest ice cube I’ve ever seen. Taste-wise, it’s deliciously sharp and certainly hit the spot. Henry had the Rose Spritz mocktail, made from Hibiscus syrup, rose water, lemon juice and soda. It’s a pretty drink garnished with flowers, and incredibly tasty.

Breakfast at the Greenbank Hotel

After a proper comfortable and snug sleep, we reluctantly got out of bed. We had to be off relatively early as Henry had to go to school.

Breakfast at the Greenbank Hotel is not something to be missed. There’s plenty of choice and it all looks and sounds so good. Not only that, the dining area is gorgeously decorated. Henry opted to start the day with a croissant, followed by the Greenbank grill – a cooked breakfast comprising of bacon, sausage, egg, tomato and mushroom, with moreish toast and jam on the side. I went for the yoghurt and granola pot, topped with mango, followed by Eggs Florentine. I’m a sucker for eggs and this is always top of my list (or any variation of eggs and hollandaise sauce). It was so tasty, we both thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast.

We then, sadly, had to leave. If school wasn’t happening we would’ve happily ventured into Falmouth or headed somewhere nearby, such as Kennall Vale, for a walk. There’s also this walk at nearby Mylor which is also worth doing.

We were invited to stay at The Greenbank in exchange for content on social media. All opinions and views are my own. We loved it – it’s a truly wonderful place to stay!
