Since publishing this post, my original artwork, prints and cards can be found on my new website, www.pennysherwood.co.uk. All links to the paintings below will take you there.
Since first picking up a paintbrush in 2018, I continue to find the Cornish coast alluring and irresistible when it comes to painting. After several years of painting one piece of artwork at a time, I figured it would be good to complete a collection of paintings.
With the Fisherman’s Shelter in Portscatho booked for an exhibition on 29 July and 5 August, I’ve used every opportunity available to add acrylic to canvas, board or wood. I’ve painted long after darkness has fallen and have woken with the larks to get some extra painting time in.
The inspiration for From the Trails
Over the years I have clocked up thousands of miles running on the Cornish coast path. It’s taken me to new, long forgotten, and familiar corners of Cornwall. From the trails, I have seen some amazing views and appreciated Cornwall’s seasonal beauty. Over time, I’ve found certain views have captivated my interest. These include anonymous coves, the perfectly curved coastline, small houses on the horizon and finer details synonymous with Cornwall’s fishing heritage and identity. It’s these training runs along the Cornish coast, and the views that are now so familair to me, that have inspired the From the Trails collection.
From the Trails is an open, or ongoing, collection of acrylic paintings; one I anticipate adding too over time.
I am excited and thrilled to share these 5 new paintings of Cornwall with you.
